And just like that…our special Daddy-Daughter weekend was over.

Between caring for her and scrolling my phone, out of some urge to miss anything, I’d let a wonderful experience go by. I had all weekend to spend with my daughter while my wife was out of town, and we’d mostly spent it in the living room. Enough is enough.

You better enjoy the journey, right now, because it’s all you have.

Nothing, including a realized dream, will ever compare to the joy of being with your children.

If you aren’t careful you will look back at this passage of time with deep regret for what you missed out on, what you didn’t soak in, and what you didn’t fully experience.

They will all grow up someday and you’ll wish you had more tea parties, afternoons at the park, and long bedtime discussions. In a blink of an eye, it will all be over. But if you recognize it now, you will experience the greatest joys of life, one present moment at a time.

Learn these lessons now, before it’s too late.

#1. Enjoy the journey…it’s the only thing you have right now.

If you are always striving for something in the future, you’ll miss what’s right in front of you.

Stop allowing your future goals to steal more headspace than necessary. Choose some time each day to intentionally eliminate future thoughts from your brain. This is a great time to just be present with your family.

#2. Appreciate your progress (don’t judge it).

If you’re ambitious, it’s easy to find yourself looking off in the distance.

Stop beating yourself up. Appreciate your progress, wherever it is. Worrying about where you haven’t arrived won’t get you closer.

#3. Progress, NOT Perfection.

All great journeys in life take time, which is simply a series of tiny steps.

What small thing can I do today to make progress? This question is all you need to start with each day. Then, iterate, adapt and make adjustments all along the way.

Take the time to enjoy the journey, it will never come back around again.
